About the role:

The SAPOL Transition Program is a condensed transition course for experienced police officers. The role will be a full-time General Duties position within the South Australia Police. You will be joining a team who truly makes a difference enabling safer communities in South Australia. We are seeking people with varied life experiences and cultural backgrounds, which reflect the diversity of our community. First Nations people and people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

What you'll be doing:

Training with SAPOL will be undertaken at our Police Academy at Taperoo and will

combine academic studies in law, policy and procedure with practical and physical training. Experienced police officers will undergo a streamlined transition program.

After successfully completing your training, you will be part of a team who provide frontline services to the community, which will include mobile patrols to prevent and detect crime, maintaining law and order and undertaking an active role in traffic policing and road safety campaigns.

You will then have the opportunity for further training, with more than 40 professional specialities - no matter where your interests lie, you will be sure to find a role that is the right fit for you.

Some of the tasks you will perform as a police officer include:

  1. Preventing, detecting and investigating offences in areas such as street offences, family violence, traffic, drugs and alcohol.
  2. Securing and examining crime scenes and accidents to locate and obtain evidence.
  3. Maintaining public safety.
  4. General patrols in identified areas to minimise the potential for public disturbance and crime.
  5. Investigating accidents, crimes, minor offences and public complaints.
  6. Gathering evidence and investigating, arresting and interviewing suspects.
  7. Testing persons suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and issuing infringement notices for traffic offences.
  8. Directing and controlling traffic at congested areas.
  9. Attending at community engagement events.
  10. Providing advice and assistance to victims of crime and their families.
  11. Maintaining records and preparing reports.
  12. Attending court.

What's on offer:

For experienced police officers, upon permanent appointment the rate of remuneration will be based on an assessment of prior service. Recruits with demonstrated police experience may be appointed at a level commensurate with their expertise, up to the rank of senior constable.

As a new recruit and upon completion of training, probationary constables will receive $83,398. The expected salary range will be $112,645 to $126,677 upon permanent appointment, inclusive of shift penalties and depending on experience and classification.   1. Further incremental salary progressions governed by the SAPOL enterprise agreement.
  2. 12% superannuation contribution.
  3. Operational positions attract shift penalties of up to 23%.
  4. Financial and flexibility incentives for regional postings.
  5. Access to subsidised housing in specified regional locations.
  6. 6 weeks annual leave, up to 12 programmed days off per year and up to 2 years parental leave of which up to 20 weeks is paid.
  7. Nominate your top 3 postings preferences.

  9. 100% recognition of prior service (up to Constable, increment 7).
  10. Recognition of prior learning supporting progression to Senior Constable upon
  11. permanent appointment (subject to service and qualifications).

Eligibility:

Experienced police officers applying for the SAPOL Transition Program must satisfy the following:

  1. An Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident.
  2. Able to meet medical, fitness and psychometric requirements.
  3. Able to complete operational training and be willing to carry and use operational safety equipment, including a firearm.
  4. Complete a series of assessments to ensure suitability.
  5. Have a minimum of three years of relevant experience
  6. Hold a current full class drivers' licence
