Opportunity for Podiatrist, Part Time position (1 day per fortnight) at the brand new Western Plains Correctional Centre, Lara VIC.

Attractive Base Salary $140,000.00 per annum (based on Full Time) + Super

About the role

GEO Healthcare operates in 13 Victorian Men’s Public Prisons providing primary healthcare services to the prisoner population. Travel across Victoria will be required for this role.

The Podiatrist will be an experienced and highly competent clinician who delivers quality services. The Podiatrist provides clinical and professional leadership to allied health professionals, including doctors working in male prisons in Victoria. 

  • Perform physical exams on patients within a correctional setting.
  • Review patient medical histories and results of x rays and medical laboratory tests.
  • Diagnose and treat foot, ankle, and lower leg problems.
  • Conducting foot and ankle surgeries and applying therapeutic treatments for issues like arthritis, fractures, and feet corn and calluses.
  • Prescribing orthotics and other devices, within Justice Health guidelines, to treat deformities and ailments and improve patients' mobility and comfort.

Skills and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have:

Essential:

  • Qualified Podiatrist with current AHPRA registration.
  • Excellent knowledge of therapeutic and surgical treatments for the lower extremities
  • Familiar with all types of foot problems including genetic abnormalities and deformities
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well with people of all ages
  • Empathy and patience when dealing with serious diseases
  • Up to date with latest technologies and treatments in Podiatry
  • Appropriate qualification in Podiatry and AHPRA registration.            
  • Demonstrated experience working as a Podiatrist.
  • Ability to work to full scope of clinical practice. 

Other Requirements of the role:

  • Valid Australian driver’s license.
  • Ability to work within a prison setting, which will involve direct contact with people in prison associated with the delivery of healthcare.
  • Satisfactory completion of a National Criminal History Check.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Working outside of ordinary business hours may be required.
