Overview

The Yorke and Northern Local Health Network are currently seeking Registered Midwives to join their CenSTaR Candidate Pool 2025/2026. 

As Registered Midwives you will contribute to the delivery of professional, high quality nursing care aimed at improving patient health outcomes across Yorke and Northern Local Health Network sites. There are multiple casual positions available for persons willing to work over 7 days and inclusive of night duty. 

About the position:

The YNLHN Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) commenced in the region in 2019 and was one of the first MGP models in regional South Australia, with a total of 5 birthing suites with the network, there are approximately 540 births across the network and up to 700 women cared for.

The YNLHN is an all risk MGP model delivering Midwifery care in hospitals with a level 3 capability. Midwives in the YNLHN work within the Australian Midwifery Council consultation and referral guidelines and lead maternity care collegially with GP Obstetricians and Obstetric Specialists in the provision of Perinatal care of the women in the MGP model.

As a recipient of the 2020/21 SA nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards for ‘ Excellence in Person Centred Care’ and the first regional LHN to receive BFHI accreditation in 2021, the Y&N Network provides progressive and innovative care to the women who engage in the MGP program. Ensuring that Midwives work to their scope of practice, YNLHN encourages Midwives towards endorsement and credentialling, leadership opportunities, women’s health specialisation and ongoing professional development to be the best Midwife they can be.

 About you:

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse &/or Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold a current practicing certificate.
  • Registered Nurse &/or Midwife with at least 3 years post registration experience is preferred.
  • Have experience or wish to gain experience in Midwifery Group Practice or continuity care models.
  • Demonstrated competence in the relevant area of nursing practice in accordance with the appropriate standards of practice.
  • Effective communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in the supervision of assistants in midwifery, student midwives, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses.
